Bob’s Antique & Classic Cars, Part 3

Finally getting back to my series of classics at Kancamagus Collectables. Here we have a 1959 Ford Fairlane Galaxie Skyliner, looking a little worse for the wear, but not bad considering it’s parked outdoors in ski country.

According to Wikipedia, the Skyliner was the only retractable hardtop convertible of its time. Note—that doesn’t mean it was the FIRST retractable hard top. That honour apparently belongs to the 1938 Peugeot 402 B. Check it out at howstuffworks.

Here’s a YouTube video showing someone opening and closing the roof on their 1959 Skyliner (with a bit of driving in the middle). Now I understand why Wikipedia was saying there was so little trunk space—just whatever fits in that little box under the roof.

And here’s Lucy, explaining the car to Ricky.

Despite Ford’s extensive advertising, it wasn’t a big seller, so they stopped making it after three years, with 1959 being the last model year.
